1. (v.13a) - “…take up […] to resist”

I. The Belt of Truth - (6:14a)

1. The BELT!

Luke 12:35 NASB95
“Be dressed in readiness, and keep your lamps lit.
1 Peter 1:13 NASB95
Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

2. TRUTH!

John 8:31–36 NASB95
So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” They answered Him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never yet been enslaved to anyone; how is it that You say, ‘You will become free’?” Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin. “The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son does remain forever. “So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.
John 8:43–45 NASB95
“Why do you not understand what I am saying? It is because you cannot hear My word. “You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies. “But because I speak the truth, you do not believe Me.
2 Peter 1:3–4 NASB95
seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.
Psalm 51:6 NASB95
Behold, You desire truth in the innermost being, And in the hidden part You will make me know wisdom.
Ephesians 4:15 NASB95
but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ,
Ephesians 4:25 NIV84
Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are all members of one body.

II. The Breastplate of Righteousness - (6:14b)

1. The BREASTPLATE!

Mark 7:21 NASB95
“For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evil thoughts, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries,
1 John 3:17 NASB95
But whoever has the world’s goods, and sees his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him?

2. RIGHTEOUSNESS!

Positional/Imputed Righteousness!

2 Corinthians 5:21 NASB95
He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
Hebrews 10:14 NASB95
For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified.
Philippians 3:7–9 NASB95
But whatever things were gain to me, those things I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ. More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ, and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith,
Romans 8:1 NASB95
Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
Practical/Imparted Righteousness!
Ephesians 4:1 NASB95
Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, implore you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called,
Ephesians 4:22–24 NASB95
that, in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.
Ephesians 5:7–9 NIV84
Therefore do not be partners with them. For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth)
